Exclusively organised by SHEDA, the SHEDA Excellence Awards is a benchmark of distinctive quality.
Set up in 2009 under the leadership of Hj. Zaidi Ahmad (President 2009-2012; 2012-2015) as an expansion of the SHEDA Property Man of the Year Award, the Awards recognise outstanding design-to-delivery achievements of developers who contribute to the calibre and dynamic landscape of property developments in Sarawak.
The Awards aim to highlight projects that meet innovative standards. Held in conjunction with the SHEDA Annual Dinner, the presentation of Awards is also an opportune platform to acknowledge the achievements of SHEDA members in the industry.
The Awards are adjudicated by a panel of independent industry professionals. In line with the evolving and fluid nature of excellence, various decisions have been made through the years to support the organic development of a transparent, impartial and effective adjudication process since its formation.
Each submission is assessed on its on merits. In the event projects do not meet the standards set by the Awards Criteria and Panel of Adjudicators in a particular category, no winners will be announced for the said category. Similarly, in the event two or more projects compete within the same category and are both deemed outstanding, the Panel of Adjudicators may decide to award both projects.
In order to complement the revised image of the SHEDA Excellence Awards and comprehensively consolidate its visible identity, the SHEDA Excellence Awards Logo was created.
The linked, multi-tiered lines, progressively moving upwards in the logo represent the variety, advancement of and coherent connection between landedeand strata developments, whereas the use of cleanly-spaced fonts indicate quiet elegance and humble distinction. The modified "X" is the razor's edge required by those seeking to be above par and achieve excellence.
In commemoration of the 10 years since the first SHEDA Property Man of the Year was awarded and in an effort to cement SHEDA's reputation and brand in the property industry, SHEDA introduced two exclusive trophies in 2015.
Characterised by its smooth, layered boards and curved silhouette, the sturdy, pewter-cast trophies symbolise the timeless versatility of classical shapes, the variety of flourishing developments and vision necessary to take the property industry to greater heights. In addition, the ethnic motive featured near the base serves as a reminder of Sarawak's modesty, diversity and promising future. The two trophies are distinguishable by their respective finishing; the SHEDA Property Man Award Trophy is in gold-plated finish and the SHEDA Excellence Awards, in mirror.
The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) movement has grown in recent years and has been put on highly visible priority by conglomerates and corporations garnering much positive publicity. The general impression that only big corporations have the resources to adopt CR as part of their business model are therefore deep seated..
Without a constant and dedicated stream of resources to support CSR Program, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have shied away from CSR while others who have been involved in informal CSR didn't necessarily broadcast their practices with the perception that their contributions are too little and insignificant. Not aware of the business advantages associated with CSR, there are also some SMEs who didn't publicize their altruistic practices. CSR is beneficial as customers today are looking for reliable developers whom they know behave responsibly, and are able to build and deliver goods of acceptable standards.
The SHEDA CSR Leadership Awards is a prestigious accolade from SHEDA that acknowledges member companies that walk that extra mile to incorporate charitable activities that will bring positive impact to local communities.
The CSR Leadership Trophy has broken away from the conventional trophy colours of gold or silver. The trophy is designed in pewter-cast and adopted rose gold as its main trophy colour. While gold and silver somehow give a more masculine appearance, the trophy adorned rose gold satin finishes giving it a softer and gentler look, evoking the emotion of tenderness and affection.
The quintessential image of a slender sapling with leaves on the trophy symbolises new beginning, hope and growth that the award recipient has brought about to the society and community.
Although young, the two leaves are designed to look fleshy almost looking like two cupping hands, which abstractly represent hand gesture of 'giving' and 'offering' that most of us are familiar with. The leaves are supported by a sapling that gently twirls around the trophy always lending support and comfort offered by the noble gestures and initiatives of CSR.
Taking into consideration of important parameters such as volume stability, materiality, ease of holding, weight, method of fabrication, the design of the trophy was a vision conceived from the desk of SHEDA's State Exco Member, Ms Angie Kueh.
